Lennon Back With The Bhoys

Neil Lennon attained legendary status at Parkhead for his achievements with the club and won a list of honours that stands up with the best in the game. Unfortunately for him and us, his time with the Reds was not quite as rewarding.

It was seen at the time of his signing for Forest, as something of a coup by Calderwood and was warmly welcomed by the fans. Unusually for someone who had achieved so much in the game, he was never officially given the captains arm band during his short spell here, but his presence on the pitch seemed to be enough to earn respect from the players (he did stand in for Breckin when he was injured).

He soon found himself out of favour when he left the club to return to Scotland, for what was described at the time as family problems. When he returned to Nottingham a week later he was dropped from the team and only played intermittently after that. Rumours of a fall out with the gaffer and a move elsewhere were rife. At the end of January it was announced that he had signed for League 2 side Wycombe Wanderers on a free transfer, after making only 18 starts for the Reds.

He teams up with Celtic manager Gordon Strachan, as part of the coaching staff. That was a role many Forest fans had hoped he would take up with us when he hung up his boots. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be.

I will wait for the book to find out what really happened during his brief time with us. Good luck to a great pro in his new role.

Sad end to his playing career, obviously not up to life in L1 or L2, perhaps should have retired a legend rather than this way!
