'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Doughty Digs Deep For £2.65M Earnshaw

Forest have made their first signing of the summer, with the signature of Rams striker Robert Earnshaw for a £2.65M fee.

Earnshaw has signed a 3 year deal with the Reds and is the most expensive signing since David Johnson, 7 years ago from Ipswich for £3M.

It's a hefty fee and looks like a sign of intent from the club that they mean business next season. At least it will be a sign of intent if they can pull a couple more off like this.

Chairman Nigel Doughty told the official site. 'When you look at Robert's record, in terms of goals per game, he's probably the most successful Championship player. Allied with the strikeforce we already have, I think it means we will be a potent goal scoring force next season...'

The Reds' are thought to have beaten off the challenges of a host of other Championship clubs, with Norwich, Cardiff and Sheffield United expressing an interest in him. Welcome to Forest Earnie.

Not a sum to be scoffed at. Fair play to ND. It's about time and long overdue, but maybe this really is a sign that NFFC mean business.
