'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Calderwood - Reading Game Will Be A Tough Test

The fact that we are finally out of League 1 hit home today, with the release of the 2008/9 fixture list. Up until today, I hadn't realised what a daunting task we have ahead of us next season.

It seems the same thought may have occurred to Reds' boss Colin Calderwood, as he told the official site. 'It's important we make a strong start in terms of results and the fact that three of our first four games are at home is a definite advantage. If we can get off to a good start it would only add to the positive feeling that has surrounded the club since the final day of last season. There are some really appetising fixtures to look forward to. Playing Reading on the opening day is one of the toughest tests we could have got and it will be a real examination of where we are as a team.'

They won't get any tougher next season than Reading, who will already be amongst the bookies favourites to go up. CC is right about getting off to a good start and that the home advantage in the opening games could well work in our favour. Looking at the list, we are in for a tough time, but as CC also says, we need to carry the feelgood factor that is still around into the new campaign.

Should be a good tester for you first up to see how the new signings have come along in the summer.
