No Improved Deal For Calderwood - Doughty

Forest Chairman Nigel Doughty has decided to keep manager Colin Calderwood on a rolling one year contract, despite the fact that he gained the Reds' automatic promotion at the second time of asking last season.

Canny Calderwood, decided to strike whilst the iron was still hot, following the last day promotion and cash in on his increased popularity by asking for a contract extension. You can't blame him either really, but Nigel Doughty was equally as canny, when he told the Nottingham Evening Post. 'He has had five years in management and I keep telling him he has failed during three of those years because he has only got his teams into the play-offs.'

Doughty probably made the comment with his tongue firmly in his cheek, but he did have praise for the upwardly mobile manager. 'He has had two automatic promotions as well though and you can't say fairer than that. Football fans generally are too hard on managers and players and expect miracles and magic. Colin has a rolling contract, so it is not right to say that he only has a year left on his deal.'

I think fans will accept that as a fair decision in all honesty. Whilst CC is a young and improving manager with a good track record to date, he did have his detractors last season after some dismal displays from the team. He does have to prove that he can do a job in the Championship. At least if it turns to rats next season, we can get rid without it costing a fortune. By the same measure, we can improve his current deal if he is doing well and he gets us playing the tippy tappy football we all know and love.

Would have thought he deserved at least 2 years.
