Thornhill Gets Backing From Calderwood
Reds' boss Colin Calderwood has told youngster Matt Thornhill, that his red card against Charlton was unjust. The 19 year old was sent off in the game for a second bookable offence, in the 0-0 draw at the City Ground.
Calderwood told the official site. 'I really didn't think Matt deserved a yellow card for either incident. There is not a nasty bone in his body and there was nothing to suggest that there was anything in either challenge. But when a player is sent off for two bookings you can't appeal against it. It's a learning curve but not for Matt because he's doing nothing wrong.'
Thornhill was given a standing ovation as he left the field by the fans, who also thought the decision was harsh. It's a shame he can't appeal the decision. Instead, he'll just have to put up with it and accept what was a bad day at the office for referee Karl Evans.
