'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Big Fat Joe Joins Cartoon Army

Jimmy Greaves used to say 'its a funny old game' and he was proved right yesterday, with the news that former Forest boss Joe Kinnear had been appointed the new saviour of Newcastle United.

In his time as manager of Forest, Joe Kinnear went from hero to villain in the space of 10 short months. He won't be remembered as one of the best managers we ever had, despite saving us from almost certain relegation following the departure of Paul Hart.

Things started well for BFJ, but it soon went tits up, with his failure to attract any 'sexy signings' and his claim that playing the Sheep was 'just another game.' He lost the fans, the players and the boardroom and left himself with no other option than to resign at the end of 2004. The rest as they say, is history.

Kinnear hasn't worked since walking out, so it comes as some surprise to see this appointment. I must admit to not believing the news when it was posted on the forum, but a quick check on the Beeb revealed that this wasn't some elaborate hoax and was in fact true.

It seems insane for the Geordies to have gone for him, but he's set to team up with one of his former players Dennis Wise. A match made in heaven, if ever there was. Even with only 6-8 games in charge, this has surely made the boys from the Toon a laughing stock? Time will tell I suppose, but at least it brightened up an otherwise very dull Friday afternoon on hearing the news. Good luck Newcastle. You're gonna need it.
