How To Avoid Relegation: Part 1

Things are serious and here is the position in numbers.

Over the last five seasons an average of 51 points would have avoided the drop to Division 1. In terms of results, these are the ways of getting that magic 51 points in a season:

Play Win Draw Lose Pts

46 17 0 29 51
46 16 3 27 51
46 15 6 25 51
46 14 9 21 51
46 13 12 19 51
46 12 15 17 51
46 11 18 15 51
46 10 21 13 51
46 9 24 11 51
46 8 27 9 51
46 7 30 7 51
46 6 33 5 51

So far this is how we`ve done:

12 1 3 8 6

So we need at least another 45 points from 34 and these are the options left:

Play Win Draw Lose Pts
34 15 0 19 45
34 14 3 17 45
34 13 6 15 45
34 12 9 13 45
34 11 12 11 45
34 10 15 9 45
34 9 18 7 45
34 8 21 5 45
34 7 24 3 45
34 6 27 2 45

The stats show we might just about scrape home with last season`s "win 1 draw 1 lose 1" policy. We could even survive if we lost all our away games but only if we can re-build Fortress Nottingham. Some hopes.

Tough times ahead but the secret is to avoid defeats and hang on for draws at least.

Thanks to Cholo for working it all out. It looks a dauting prospect, even on paper. Can we do it? Have your say on the forum today.
