'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Billy Davies Unveiled

Billy Davies was today paraded in front of the nations media and unveiled as the new boss of Nottingham Forest.

In typical Sky Sports News stylee, the live press conference was cut short, with the breaking news that Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe had a cold. The brief shots from the City Ground, did however show a delighted and smiling Billy Davies, giving us the usual soundbites.

There was however a little more info on the official site, where Davies said. 'I feel that the time is right to come back into football, particularly one with the history and tradition of Nottingham Forest. I am very proud to be here. I know all about the past achievements and what has made this club great but we've now got to look to the future and there is a lot of work to be done. The league table does not lie and we have short, medium and long-term goals and I don't need to tell anyone that the first involves staying in this division.'

Nottingham Forest Chief Executive Mark Arthur was also present and he revealed that 'Billy Davies was the first and only choice for the job.' He was delighted that the club got their man.

All in all, Billy Davies said everything you want to hear the new man say and it has to be said he sounded very upbeat and enthusastic about the task ahead. The only downside to it all, apart from Sky TV cutting it short, was the medias insistance that Billy Davies is not wanted by the fans because of his Derby connections. Fans are only concerned with his ability to do the job he's been brought in to do, not where he's managed before. Every Forest fan with an ounce of sense will be backing him from the start and doing everything they can to support the team. As much as I have my doubts about his suitability, I'll be doing just that and so will every other Forest fan I know. Good luck Billy Davies, you're going to need it.
