The Final Countdown: Squeaky Bum Time Part 1

With only 5 games to go until the season finishes, our beloved leader Billy Davies has to get his troops to produce a run of results that would be more akin to a team making a promotion challenge.

The dust has hardly had time to settle on the 1-1 draw achieved at Barnsley yesterday and it remains to be seen whether it was a point gained or two dropped. Whatever the verdict, there's little time to dwell on it, with the next game just around the corner. It's the daunting prospect of Brizzle City at the City Ground next Saturday and they'll be by no means a pushover.

Most people are now of the opinion that we need 3 more wins from our remaining 5 games. It would be a massive boost to get the first of those against Brizzle next week, but the Robins still harbour hopes of making the Playoffs and will be in no mood to roll over and give us the points. With 3 of our remaining games at home and with some partisan support, we do have a chance. But, there is another potential stumbling block on the horizon, in the shape of our goal difference, which is far worse than those teams in the relegation dogfight with us. That 5-0 thumping at Burnley the other week could well come back and bite us on the arse again.

After the Robins, we travel to Brammall Lane on Bank Holiday Monday. That's another massive ask for the lads and not one we'll be expected to get much from. The following Saturday sees us at home to Coventry, for what will be inevitably billed as another must win game. We then go to Blackpool, who will either be safe, or right in the thick of it with us by then. Sunday May 3, will be our date with destiny. We face Southampton at home, in what will surely be a tense and dramatic affair, just as it was last year. Squeaky bum time? You bet yer arse it is.
