Forest Are Stuck With McSheffrey For The Season

Gary McSheffrey was loaned to the Reds' from Birmingham at the beginning of last month, in an effort to bolster our misfiring frontline. But his four games for us so far, have done nothing more than prove that he's less than fit.

McSheffrey has just recovered from a career threatening knee injury, which kept him out of action for four months. Despite that, we still went ahead and signed him, such was our desperation at the time. It was always a risky move and it's one that hasn't paid off. In hindsight, it was a bad move on our part and a waste of a signing, something we can't afford in our current state.

It now appears, that the club may have been caught off guard in thinking they could send the player back to Brum. Billy Davies intimated at the weekend, that the former Coventry hitman would be on his way and that he would play no further part in the Reds' season. However, reports in today's Birmingham Mail, suggest that he will remain at the City Ground, whether we want him or not.

Although McSheffrey is a proven goalscorer at Championship level, you would have thought the club would have established whether he was fit enough before bringing him in. The hierarchy at NFFC will point to our desperate circumstances as their defence, but it was a wasted signing as well as a waste of money. He's rumoured to be on £13,000 a week. Nice work if you can get it. When fit he will no doubt prove to be an excellent player once again, but at the moment he's no good to us in a relegation dogfight.
