No More Square Pegs In Round Holes For Davies

When Billy Davies arrived at the City Ground in January, one of the first problems he identified was a lack of strength in depth within the squad and too many players, playing out of position.

Talking to the Nottingham Evening Post, Davies said. 'We need a minimum of 22 players, but we don't want a massive squad, we don't want too many.
We want it to be a tight knit squad, then we can add one or two players to that during the season, as and when.'

Part of Colin Calderwoods' downfall was his desire to keep the squad small. That strategy backfired big time, mainly due to the ever growing injury list he had to deal with, but Davies wants to adopt a different approach and it's one most fans will agree with.

One of the biggest criticisms of the club by fans in recent times, has been the continued and misguided policy of players playing out of position, Davies said. 'We will look to bring in the right amount of players to allow us to have two good quality players in each position, without having to have square pegs in round holes.' That will be greeted with a chorus of cheers from supporters, who as said have seen that as one of our major inadequacies. It all sounds so simple coming from Davies...just makes you wonder why no one else has thought of it before. Now we just have to buy the players to put Billy's plan into action.
