Middlesbrough In £5m Bid For Earnshaw

Vital Forest has been sitting on this one for over a fortnight now, but the whispers concerning a £5m bid from Middlesbrough for our top striker Robert Earnshaw, are getting louder and louder.

NFFC has gone into lockdown lately and news on potential signings has been in short supply, but from what we can gather 'Boro have made the bid and are keen to bolster their frontline, in an effort to make a speedy return to the Prem. Forest are apparently considering the offer, but manager Billy Davies is keen to keep his man and is averse to helping out a fellow Championship rival.

If the deal did happen, it would give the Reds' a significant profit. We signed him from the Sheep last season for £2.65m. That's not a bad return and if true, would be a good bit of business for the club. The downside of course, is that he was our top scorer last term with 17 goals in an injury plagued season, that limited him to 30 League and Cup appearances for us.

It's all rumour and speculation at the moment, but we do believe there is something in it. With a further £5m in the transfer kitty, the question to be asked, is where will it be spent? The latest news we have on that front, is that Davies is still attempting to lure Gareth Bale from Spurs and he still has an interest in West Ham's Calum Davenport. The purchase of Davenport though could well be dependent, on whether Matthew Upson stays at the London club.

There is however a new name to be thrown into the ring and that is yet another Spurs player and former Red, Michael Dawson. Again, it's only a rumour, but one that if it comes off would be met with widespread approval from the fans. If Earnie did go for £5m and we did manage to get two of these targets in return, then that would surely represent good business. Don't you think?

You would think anything to do with Calum Davenport will be put on hold but i'd love to see Dawson at the city ground again
