Davies Nears Squad Completion

Nottingham Forest are close to completing the signings of three new defenders, that will not only complete the rebuilding of the squad by manager Billy Davies, but will also send out a signal of intent to every club in the Championship.

Former player and centre half Michael Dawson, along with his left back team mate Gareth Bale at Spurs, are both close to signing for the Reds'. Forest boss Billy Davies hopes to have a complete new defence in place within the next week, that will see Ibrahima Sonko join from Stoke as well.

Both Dawson and Bale are expected to join on season long loan deals, with a view to making them permanent should we achieve promotion. If the deals for these three players go through, it will mean Forest have a squad good enough to compete with any in the division and give the club a realistic chance of success.

Billy Davies and the club have managed to rebuild the entire squad over the summer, which is something of a turnaround from how things were this time last year. If and when these deals are done, it will mean that the club has brought in a total of 12 new signings since the end of last season.

We also understand that enquiries have been made about Jack Wilshere at Arsenal. The highly rated midfielder, is still only 17, but the Gunners are keen to send him out on loan and a move to the City Ground could appeal. Also on Billys' radar, is Portsmouth striker David Nugent, but he faces stiff competition from Middlesbrough for his signature.
