Forest Set Sights On Bale And Whitbread

Despite the good work done over the summer by NFFC in strengthening the squad, the defence has proved to be a real stumbling block for the club to sort out. However, the longterm targets of Spurs defender Gareth Bale and Millwall centre half Zak Whitbread, could be the solutions to those problems.

Deals for Ibrahima Sonko, Shaun Barker and Matt Mills all came close to completion, but for one reason or another failed to happen. Although the team has managed to keep 3 clean sheets in their last 4 games, Billy Davies still sees it as the weakest link in his emerging young squad. He's on record as saying the rebuilding process is only 80% done and it's believed that with the acquisition of his two new targets, his job of strengthening the squad will be complete for this season.

Forest hope that Gareth Bale at Tottenham Hotspur and Zak Whitbread at Millwall, will be the final pieces in the jigsaw for Davies. He hopes to have them in place at the City Ground in time for New Year and continue the push for promotion.

Davies is under no pressure from the club to get out of the Championship this season, but the view is to give it a go and finish as high as we can. The idea is to progress as well as we can this season and become serious contenders next time round. But, no one at the club is going to turn it down or bottle it if it was to happen now.
