Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies might be one of the names in the frame for the vacant Scotland job, but he's remaining tight lipped about whether he fancies the post or not.
Speaking in the NEP today, Davies gave no indication one way or the other, on whether he would take the job if it was offered. 'I have had endless calls about this and I don't want to say anything.' That comment will do little to calm the nerves of supporters or the club, but it could give him some leverage with the board in terms of gaining more control of who comes and goes at the City Ground.
Davies is in a fortunate position at the moment. With his stature amongst the fans at an all time high and the team surpassing expectations, he's in a great position to capitalise on his new found popularity. He'll never have a better opportunity to kick down the boardroom door and lay down his demands, than he does right now. He holds all the aces in what could turn out to be a very interesting game of poker between the SFA, NFFC and Billy Davies.
If it all went to plan, Davies could end up getting the very players he wants in January and it might make the acquisitons panel try just that little bit harder to grant Billy his wishes. Davies will no doubt be flattered and even tempted by the Scotland job, but surely he's onto something bigger and better at NFFC? Things are looking very good for the Reds' right now, the same can't be said for Scottish football. There's a distinct lack of talent North of the border and the lean times look set to continue for them. Forest on the other hand are very much on the up and that's all down to Billy Davies. Hopefully the progression and rise will continue, but we need Davies to stay for that to happen. I think Billy knows he's onto a good thing at NFFC, but expect him to milk this one for all it's worth.
