McGugan Getting Back To His Best

Lewis McGugan made a big impression, when he broke into the Forest first team squad three years ago and was widely tipped to go along way in the game, but following a bad year with form and injury last term and some deserved criticism from the manager, his early promise seemed to have stalled.

Now back to full fitness in what seems like an age, the 21 year old looks to be sorting himself out and is beginning to look like the McGugan we grew to admire.

His 3 goals in 10 games, mainly from the bench are beginning to make manager Billy Davies sit up and take notice again. Many wondered whether he would regain his place in midfield, with the summer signings of Majewski and McKenna and with Moussi playing his best football at the club since joining, some were even questioning if he had a future at the club.

Talking to BBC Radio Nottingham, McGugan said. 'If the gaffer puts you on, your job is to try and influence the game. A couple of times I've done that now, so I've just got to keep on going.'

His two most recent goals, against Cardiff and Donny, will have put him back in contention for a starting place. But, it's not only the goals, it's his attitude towards the game that has caught the eye. He looks to have the hunger back and clearly wants to play. That can only be a good thing for the Reds', if we want to continue to progress.
