Davies Backs Tyson Over Keeper Challenge

Bristol City caretaker manager Keith Millen, was annoyed that Forest striker Nathan Tyson escaped a sending off in the 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate yesterday.

Tyson was involved in a collision with the keeper in the closing stages of the game, resulting in Gerken being stretchered off, with what is thought to be a broken collar bone. City fans were incensed and were calling for Tyson to be sent off, but referee Phil Crossley decided it only warranted a booking.

City boss Millen told Sky Sports News. 'From my position, I thought Dean was always favourite to get the ball, and it may have been a red-card offence. I'm not saying there was any malice intended, but the challenge was definitely late and caused us a lot of problems. When you lose your keeper late on in a game that is close, it is always worrying.'

Forest boss Billy Davies understandably saw things a little differently and backed his man over the incident. He said. 'From my position in the dug-out, I thought Nathan was fully entitled to go for the ball. He is not the type of player who would set out to injure an opponent, and, although I will be interested to see the incident again on video, I thought he had every chance of winning possession.'
