'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Davies Prepares For The Playoffs

Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies expressed his disappointment at the 3-1 defeat at Blackpool on Saturday, but he clearly has an eye on the bigger picture.

Davies made no less than 5 changes for the trip to Bloomfield Road and paid for it with a resounding defeat. That defeat though, could turn out to be a small price to pay, if it means that key players will be better prepared for the upcoming Playoff games in a few weeks time. With only 2 games of the season remaining, there will be no time for players to recover from any injuries picked up in the final run in of this campaign. Davies said he was going to mix it up, rest a few and give fringe players a chance. At Blackpool he did just that and will probably do the same again for the visit of Plymouth next week.

With a Playoff place now guaranteed, Davies appears to be unconcerned with who the opposition will be in those vital 2 games and doesn't seem too worried about where we finish in the top 6. For me, I would still like to grab that 3rd spot, as it would be a deserving and justifiable finish to what has been a remarkable season. But, the Playoffs are a lottery and getting to them with a fit and healthy squad would give us the edge, whoever the opposition is.

His post match comments following the Blackpool defeat, show he is clearly looking ahead. 'We have to start to prepare now, although we can't build up the momentum by chopping and changing the side, we do have to make sure that everyone is fully fit going into the play-offs. Everyone has to be ready and match fit and that is the objective at this time, it is all about wrapping the players in cotton wool.'

Billy also said he'd had a few choice words with the players after the Blackpool game. Billy doesn't like losing, even with a weakened eleven.
