Ian Holloway would probably love it if he could play Forest every week, after chalking up his 4th victory of the season over us, at the City Ground last night. The 6-4 aggregate win, took Blackpool into the Championship playoff final at Wembley on May 22 and meant the Reds' were left licking their wounds following their 3rd playoff semi final defeat.
You could almost forgive the affable manager for taking the piss. Our form against the Seasiders this season is so bad, it's almost laughable. Four times we've played them and four times we've lost.
Instead of having a bloody good laugh at our expense and rubbing even more salt into the already bleeding wounds, he was on the charm offensive once again. Earlier this season, he practically apologised for nicking the points after his 1-0 smash and grab at the City Ground. Now, he's singing the praises for the backing the fans gave the team in last nights' game.
Talking to the NFFC official site, he said. 'I would like to congratulate Forest fans. They made it so difficult for us and showed massive respect by staying and applauding us at the end. That proves what a wonderful football club this is. I don't think there are too many people who would have done that but they swallowed their own disappointment. To stand and clap my boys off at the end was magnificent - that's what football is all about.'
Kind words for sure, but they don't make the pain of losing any easier to bare. That said, I think most Forest fans will wish them well and hope they can go on and win at Wembley next week. Football needs people like Holloway, there's not enough people like him in the game. Mind you, I don't think there are many folks in Leicester who feel quite the same way.
