'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Billy Brings Back Stiffs

Nottingham Forest have today made the popular announcement, that reserve team football at the club is to be reintroduced.

From the start of next season they will be playing in the Totesport.com Reserve League, where they will play against the likes of Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby and Barnsley.

Manager Billy Davies pulled the plug on the reserves at the beginning of last season, saying that the level of competiton wasn't good enough and preferred to play what he termed as more meaningful matches against pre picked opposition. It was a move roundly criticised by supporters at the time, so a return will be seen as a positive one from them now.

Funnily enough we have gone the opposite way this season. I think your club is doing the right thing which makes me feel slightly concerned about our decision.

Not many supporters agreed with the decision when we did away with it. The reserves were not a only a good breeding ground for young talent and the best way of developing their potential, but also a good way of getting injured players back to match fitness. They never played as many matches as they would in a league either and most of the ones they did play were behind closed doors. Good decision to bring them back imo.
