Davies Keen To Retain Forest Stars

Forest lost James Perch to Newcastle recently, and have David McGoldrick and Dele Adebola injured - with this in mind Billy Davies is keen to retain the rest of his top players.

Other top names are still attracting interest from others clubs in the top leagues of England and Scotland but Davies, as he told The Nottingham Post, is keen to retain as much of his squad as he can so the moves forward from last season can be built upon: 'I made it clear last season that, with the age of this squad and the quality of it, that it was only needing to be topped up.

'The longer it was together as a group, we knew the more success it would get.

'What we didn't want to do was to be chopping and changing our better players, because that disrupts the long-term planning.

'I would not be encouraging or looking for any more players to leave the club. I would be looking to continue the development of this team for as long as I can.'

There are time when it is inevitable that you will have to let some players go, the money on offer can be far too good to refuse, or even the player themselves might want to leave but the longer a squad can remain intact and develop as a unit the better it will obviously be, so Davies is of course spot on.

Some of the fringe players at The City Ground 'could' be available for sale, or loan, and these are the ones that Davies would prefer to move on if players do go, with him making the club aware of this fact.

Do you think that Billy Davies will get his wish and, as much as possible, he will be able to keep the majority of this Forest squad together?

I just realised actually how gloomy it feels around here. Not the feeling and the buzz of anticipation we want going into a new season. A season we have clearly detailed that we will get players in early to have a close knit squad working together for as long as possible. I get the feeling that the next few days define more than just a push for promotion this season.
