'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Davies Stresses The Need For Reinforcements

Billy Davies has often been left frustrated in his attempts to strengthen Forest this summer, although he is not giving up hope of doing this - and he knows he NEEDS to do this.

Injuries left him with just 17 first team footballers to select from for the game at Peterborough at the weekend and he knows, as he told The Nottingham Post, that several of those are not really ready for championship football yet: 'the squad we named at Peterborough was the 17 fit senior players we had fit. Out of that group, we had (Julian) Bennett who is miles away and needs to go out on loan, you have (Brendan) Moloney who is miles away and needs to go out on loan and you have one or two others, such as (Matt) Thornhill, who probably need to go to a different level.

'At the moment, because of what we have got, we are having to play these lads and they may yet be part of the new season.'

Forest were, according to Davies - and I think many would agree, just a few players away from being where the wanted last season, but with players moving on this summer the Forest manager knows he needs to replace them and more.

Names have been 'put forward' and he remains hopeful of securing the transfers of at least 3 players, up to as many as 7 if he can: 'last season we were two or three pieces short of the jigsaw puzzle. I felt that would take us up to a certain level.

'On top of that, I think we need to bring in three or four new faces. And, with you and me being good mathematicians, you can work out what that means. We need a few more players. I have put the names forwards, we will see what happens.'

The point has been made that very few have been signed in the couple of months since the season ended, so to bring in that many in the next couple of weeks will be a tall order but you would think that Davies, and the board, are working hard on some dealings or such things would not have been said, right?

Do you think that Forest will bring in the players that Billy Davies needs/wants to? And who would you like these players to be?

Let us know your thoughts.

It's just one excuse after another with this AP. Either they are unbelievably incompetent or there's a serious lack of ambition at the club in general. You have to feel for Billy, he must be so frustrated his head hurts from banging it against the wall.

the TAP need to sort this out. this season could be one of the best chances we have for a long time in getting to the premiership, but instead of building on last season, they're letting players go and not signing anybody, and the mood is dropping. BD 'recommended and advised' his list of targets weeks ago, so what's taking so long!?
