1st Round Carling Cup Exit For Forest

The away day hoodoo continued for Nottingham Forest last night, as they went out of the Carling Cup at the first hurdle. It's now 14 games since the Reds' had an away win after going down 2-1 to League 2 Bradford City.

Manager Billy Davies put out a young side and gave starts to Joel Lynch and Matthew Thornhill, due to the fact he had several players on international duty. That aside, there can be few excuses for the defeat.

Matty Thornhill opened the scoring for Forest on 35 mins, after firing in a cross from Chris Cohen. The second half saw the home side take the game to Forest and they got an equaliser on 57 mins through David Syers.

With the scores level after 90 mins, the game went into extra time. James Hanson got the winner on 100 mins and sent the home side into the draw for the 2nd round.
