Most Forest fans opposed to the club upping sticks and moving to a new home, cite the proposal of the new stadium being built in Gamston as the main reason. But, according to the NEP, that idea could be scrapped in favour of a new location.
Gamston was chosen as part of the City's 2018 World Cup bid, but the bid team has been hampered by continuing opposition from Nottingham County Council from day one. The land at Gamston is a protected green belt site and has had little going for it as far as supporters are concerned. Apart from the fact that many supporters wanted to see the present City Ground redeveloped instead of moving, many saw little benefit in moving so far out of town.
The latest proposal, is for the stadium to be built on the Eastside regeneration zone off London Road, near the BBC TV Centre. This will bring many of the supporters against a move back on board, as it has better transport links, it's virtually in the city centre and most importantly, you can buy a pint at several locations within spitting distance of where the stadium might be.
Of course there will still be supporters against the move no matter what. I don't know many fans that would prefer the move ahead of redeveloping our current home, but according to the big wigs that isn't practical. How true that is we'll never know, but a move to Eastside, sure as hell sounds better than a move to Gamston and the back of beyond. No disrespect to those living in Gamston (it's a lovely place), but it's not the place for a football ground, is it?
