Villa, Fulham and WBA - Keeping An Eye On McGugan

Unwelcome news for Forest fans today, in that Premiership clubs Aston Villa, Fulham and West Bromwich Albion, are all reportedly interested in midfielder Lewis McGugan.

The Daily Mirror says the three Premiership clubs are set to do battle when the January transfer window opens, with Villa boss Gerard Houllier prepared to offer £3m in an effort to land the 22 year old.

McGugan has been earning himself rave reviews so far this season, by finally living up to the early promise he showed when he broke into the first team back in 2006. With 9 goals in the last 13 games and most of them spectacular, it's no wonder he's beginning to attract attention.

The big question for the club, is whether to cash in and get what they can, or offer him an improved deal to keep him at the City Ground. His current contract runs out next season.

This isn't true so I wouldn't worry - we will be looking at the overseas market

Easy story for lazy journalism - player does well, scores a few & Prem clubs want him!

Didn't he sign a new four year deal last season? Surely that means its not till the end of 2012-12 his contract expires?

Against Fulham and WBA we have a chance - why go down with them when you could go up with us? We'd need an early confidence boosting signing at the start of the window to reassure him of our intent. (So there's the problem then) The Villans is another matter. That's a hard sell to any player. Hard to begrudge him his chance, particularly if international opportunity knocks, and he could get the chance of european football. Fair play to Lewis - at the end of last season I bet we'd have let him go for a quarter of what is now on offer - he's made his own destiny. If only I were confident that our strike force (even before dex got crocked) could take up the goal scoring mantle, I might not be so depressed!
