'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Why sign every 'Johnny Kickabout'

Nigel Doughty has 'leapt' to the defence of chief exec Mark Arthur over Forest's lack of signings this summer.

The forest chairman, as he told The Evening Post, feels that the criticism of Arthur is unfair and signing every 'Johnny Kickabout' that comes along is not the way to do things.

He said: 'some of the fans don't like Mark because he does not buy every 'Johnny Kickabout' whose name comes up in a rumour on the forums.

'You have to say that we have a wonderful management team here and Mark is a terrific chief executive. He has just been re-elected to the FA Council with twice as many votes as anyone else. He is on the Professional Game board with David Gill.

'You don't get into those professions unless the people within the game think you are very good at your job and trust and respect you.'

I doubt that there are many Forest fans out there who would want the club run in a reckless manor although, on the face of it, it would seems that not enough actions are always taken on the recruitment front.

That does lead to increased frustrations...

Is Marthur solely responsible for signing players or do Forest have one of these poncey education type attitudes of a "no blame "culture? Surely someone must be ultimately responsible and to date have failed in their job remit. Poor old Steve having to put up with the same incompetence that Billy had to !
