McClaren on 0-0 draw

Steve McClaren, as he told the official website, reflected on his first competitive match in charge of Forest and concluded that it was one of those 'opening day things'.

Held 0-0 at home by Barnsley he could not fault a lot of things but knows that more is needed: 'a lot of what we did was very good and it wasn't the worst of days because we got a point and kept a clean sheet.

'The workrate and attitude of the players was excellent - I just couldn't fault that - but it was plain to see that we needed more quality in the final third of the field.'

The game was something of an 'anti-climax' given the build-up to it, but as mentioned he puts this down to a typical opening day of the season game...

Sometimes this happens, although he was happy that the players kept going until the final whistle: 'but I must confess it was one of those opening day things … sometimes you get a bit of an anti-climax. We got a big crowd in, there was a lot of expectation and we wanted to do well but it just didn't quite work out for us.

'We never looked like getting the moment that would have brought the win but we kept going right until the end and that pleased me very much.'
