McClaren In Search Of Width And Creativity

Nottingham Forest suffered their first defeat of the season yesterday, following a lacklustre performance at the New Den. The 2-0 defeat brought out a frank and honest assessment of the game from manager Steve McClaren in his post match interview.

A disappointed McClaren told the official site. 'We wouldn't have scored a goal if we had played until tomorrow, we looked good three quarters of the way down the field but in the final third we never looked like scoring.'

The match stats showed that Forest failed to register a single shot on target throughout the game, but McClaren says he hopes to have addressed that issue with the recent additions of Derbyshire and Miller up front.

Although McClaren has a wide and varied choice of strikers to choose from, none have shown they have the ability to be prolific. Those strikers may argue that they need decent service to find the net and that's also something McClaren says he's trying to address. 'We need more creative players, we need some wide players, I like to play with width, so far we've chased a lot and got none.'

Hard to fault saturday's players for lack of width having played a narrow diamond midfield. It was more than the final third, with a mere 38% possession the whole midfield have serious questions to answer. Mcleary a d ando (both injured) provide our right wibg width. Left wing? Not so sure. Jury is out on whether Reid can still cut it. Reidy is the Forest equivalent of "the weeping angel" in doctor who. You turn back and hes in a different place, but you never a tually see him move!!
