No Appeal For Chambers Red Card

Steve Cotterill has told the official site that the club will not appeal against the red card issued to club captain Luke Chambers, during the 3-0 home defeat to Southampton on Saturday.

Chambers was given his marching orders after referee Eddie Ilderton adjudged that he elbowed Saints player David Connolly during an aerial challenge. TV replays showed that the incident was fairly innocuous and that there was clearly no intent to cause injury by the Reds' defender.

Despite Cotterill himself feeling that the dismissal was unfair, he says he wont appeal the referees decision. It was accidental but we won't win an appeal with it. The thing you have to try and prove is that the referee has made a gross error of judgement. We won't prove that because Luke did catch the Southampton player - although it certainly wasn't intentional.'

Chambers will now serve a mandatory 3 match ban, beginning with the 3rd round FA Cup replay at Leicester tomorrow night. He will also miss the weekend game away at West Ham, as well as the home game with Burnley next Tuesday.
