Gorman to appeal sending off

Northampton are to appeal against captain Scott McGleish's sending-off during Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest.

Striker McGleish saw red for an alleged elbow on Julian Bennett but boss John Gorman feels the reaction of opposite number Colin Calderwood, the former Town manager, and other members of the Forest bench influenced the referee's decision.

'Colin Calderwood and David Kerslake were both saying Scott elbowed him but the video shows Scott bundled into the player's chest as he went for the ball,' said Gorman.

'There is no elbow involved and there was no over-the-top challenge. The ref didn't see it, the linesman didn't see it but it was given because of all the fuss.

'It was not dangerous foul play and if the ref is man enough he should look at the video evidence we have and admit he has made a mistake. We'll certainly appeal.'
