McCarthy Is Latest Favourite To Land Forest Job

Bookmakers Ladbrokes, have made Mick McCarthy the odds on favourite to become the new manager at Nottingham Forest.

The Reds' have been in search of a new manager since the sacking of Steve Cotterill last Thursday. Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson was the early front runner in the race, with Glenn Hoddle also seeing plenty of cash being placed on him too. Hoddle has since been ruled out by the new owners.

One of the three new owners, Abdulaziz Al-Hasawi said at a press conference yesterday."We are talking to several main iconic names that have a very clear understanding of this league. We are looking for the best in the business. We have to secure this within the next three or four days because we have to get started."

Other names in the frame are Alex McLeish, Gordon Strachan and Harry Redknapp. Money is also being placed on former player Roy Keane and fans favourite Billy Davies.

McCarthy would be seen as someone who fits the bill, in terms of what the new owners are looking for. He has a proven track record in the Championship and had a fairly successful time with Wolves in the Premiership.

I dont see why there are so mant detractors to Mick, he will do a great job, he is proven at thsi level.....he needs to get you up then you need to re-assess! We left it too late to realise the Prem was too much for him. But hope he doesnt bring Connor with him...what am I saying.....Terry Connor perfect number 2!

Mick McCarthy may well be able to do the business for us but we know Billy Davies definately can do the business for us.Far be it from me to be a killjoy and I honestly am exited BUT-flogging the ground for redevelpopment, bringing in 7 players from Kuwait, sacking the manager who kept us up against impossible odds-does it get better than Leeds away last season? We are due at least a blue chip manager. Why is this site not buzzing?

Agree with Gedling52 - however none of the national media are talking about Billy getting the job - has he burned all bridges with the club/martha??? so wont even be considered by new owners???
