'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Young Guns Impress The Boss

Colin Calderwood believes the next generation of Forest youngsters have a bright future - because they have the strength of character to succeed.

Several teenagers have forced their way on to the fringes of the first team this season, with midfielder Robert Hughes making his senior debut as a substitute last weekend.

Spencer Weir-Daley, John Paul Pittman, Felix Bastians and Vincent Fernandez have had a taste of senior football.

The likes of James Cullingworth, Alan Power, Hamza Bencherif, Paddy Gamble, Matt Thornhill and Lewis McGugan have made an impact at reserve level. Calderwood is optimistic about their potential - but says that is because of their personalities, as much as their ability.

'In terms of the talent we have, we are okay,' said the Forest boss. ''The players with outstanding talent do not always make it, because they do not always have grit and determination.

'The group that we have here do seem to have that. In terms of character, personality and the way they are educated, they are fantastic.

'And to me that is almost more important.'

Lots of spin regarding the youngsters coming from the club at the moment. Is there are a more sinister reason I wonder?
