Forest 2 Brentford 0

Nottingham Forest moved seven points clear at the top of League One with a 2-0 home victory over Brentford thanks to a Kris Commons brace.

The Forest winger fired two almost identical free-kicks past young Bees goalkeeper Clark Masters in the first half and there was no way back for the visitors after that.

Commons struck his first after nine minutes after he had been brought down by Ola Skulason. He picked himself up to rifle a 25-yard effort into the bottom left-hand corner.

And Masters saw the ball flash in the same direction eight minutes from half-time as Commons hammered home another unstoppable effort after Neil Harris had been brought down.

Poor Brentford had little to offer and never seriously brought Forest keeper Paul Smith into action throughout the 90 minutes.

It was so easy for Forest they were able to introduce leading scorer Nathan Tyson for the last 25 minutes following his recovery from a knee injury suffered on the opening day of the season.
