Academy: Forest 2 Sphinx 0

A strong Forest side yesterday ended Coventry Sphinx's hopes of progression in the FA Youth Cup.

John Woodward's Sphinx side were under Forest pressure from the off. The Away side, accustomed to playing big wigs such as Arsenal and Middlesbrough in their FA Premier Academy League matches had three early set pieces in their domination. In the 19th minute, James Reid curled an excellent shot in from the edge of the area.

Coventry Sphinx were not there to roll over, and John Woodward's side began to put pressure on Forest, with Thomas Heywood and James Collins both winning successive corners.

The pressure from the home side however was to no avail as Forest substitute Liam Hook finished off a good passing move and eventual one-two from twelve yards in the 79th minute to earn Forest progression to face Port Vale.

Still don't understand the media fixation with this game... it's a youth game... you don't normally see that kind of coverage! Still, if you're interested, the highlights are on this site: http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/TheFAYouthCup/NewsAndFeatures/Postings/2006/11/Forest.htm
goddammit
They seem to have made it a big deal in Coventry for some reason - well I suppose there is not much to do there. Daft name for a team as well.
