Calderwood Delight At Bennet Goal

Boss Colin Calderwood hailed Julian Bennett after the defender scored for the first time since the opening day of the season to breathe new life into Nottingham Forest's promotion push.

The sheer enthusiasm of the Forest defender was highlighted by Calderwood after seeing his side win for the first time in five games.

He said: 'Jules plays with a lot of spirit and he thoroughly deserved his goal for the effort he put in.

'He was determined to get on the end of the free-kick and it was an important victory for us.

'Having lost two points to a last minute goal in our last match we wanted to get maximum reward and although you have to give Northampton a lot of credit for their organisation and commitment, I thought we deserved it.

'Although we could have played a lot better in the first half we still had our chances and the man of the match was arguably their goalkeeper which tells a tale.

Northampton boss Stuart Gray admitted: 'We came with a game plan to frustrate Forest and their fans and for a long time it worked.

'The pity for us was that, having dealt with everything that they had to offer for over an hour, we conceded a goal from a set piece.

'Considering we lost three central defenders in the build-up to the game I though we did really well and our goalkeeper produced the kind of performance he has been showing all season.

'Mark Bunn works very hard at this game and, like all of us, he is gutted because we are leaving here with nothing to show.'
