'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Who Needs Style?

Kris Commons says Nottingham Forest will be happy to bore their way to promotion.

The Reds midfielder insists Colin Calderwood's title-chasers are willing to put style to one side in their bid to climb out of League One.

He has warned fans they may have to get used to more performances like the unconvincing 1-0 win against Northampton last weekend.

Commons said: 'We didn't play the best football, but we got the job done and I think that's going to be the case for the rest of the year.

'If you ask the fans, they want to us to get out of this league. I don't think they will be too bothered how we play if we can do that.

'If we score three or four goals every match - or if we win by an own goal and we're playing poorly - so long as we get three points and are top of the league at the end of the year that will be a great season.'

Forest have seen their seven-point lead at the top of League One slip away with some erratic form since December.

Victory against Northampton was only their third in ten league matches, a spell that has seen Oldham and Scunthorpe leapfrog them at the top of the table.

Commons has been sidelined for much of the slump with a torn hamstring, but believes Forest's fate lies in their own hands.

He said: 'Its been frustrating watching, but I think it's in our hands to lose an automatic place.'

'Now I'm back, Nathan Tyson is returning and David Prutton will add a lot to the team.

'Things are looking bright.'
