The Vital Forest Fan Interview: Alex Mac

The Vital Forest Fan Interview: Alex Mac

Q - How long have you been following Forest and do you remember your first game?

I've been following Forest since 1988.
I can't remember my first game, however, one that sticks out vividly for all the wrong reasons was the cup defeat at Wembley against Spurs which I was at. I was devastated.

Q - What are your most memorable moments as a Forest fan? Good and Bad.

Bad: was the decline of the club in to League 1. No money and on the brink after so much promise in the Premier League.
Good: despite the rich tradition of Forest over the years I was not around to fully appreciate the Brian Clough era so for me the best time was Forest coming 3rd in the Premier League and that fantastic victory at Old Trafford thanks to an inspired Psycho performance.

Q - Since you have been following Forest, what would your best starting eleven be and who is your all time favourite player?

GK - Crossley
RB - Gunter
LB - Pearce
CB - Walker
CB - Morgan
RW - Stone
LW - Commons
CM - Bohinen
CM - Keane
ST - Van Hooijdonk
ST - Collymore

Favourite all time player being Stuart Pearce for passion, commitment, dedication and getting the best of his out his team mates. A true leader.

Q - What is your best and worst moment of the 2012/13 season?

Best:
New owners at the beginning giving us hope and something to look forward to. Also the appointment of Billy which resulted in a much needed unbeaten run to get everyone believing again.

Worst:
Indecisiveness of the new owners and not educating themselves properly before coming in to English football. Who in their right mind would have appointed McLeish ?
Also I feel the sacking of O'Driscoll was completely at the wrong time.
Heartbreak on the last day of the season.

Q - In your opinion, how have the new owners performed since taking over the club last July?

Not great I'm afraid. Poor judgement regarding appointments although I think they got it right eventually. Sacking O'Driscoll at the wrong time was an awful decision. Releasing back room staff and not replacing them (where is our infrastructure) this concerns me greatly. No real proof of buying power...where are the signings ??? I appreciate Cox, Lansbury and Guedioura coming in but Gunter was sold therefore only about £1m or so was actually spent. The rest was loans and freebies. I hope they prove me wrong but I'm doubting the amount of money they apparently have ! And of course McLeish need I say anymore.

Q - Best and worst away ground visited?

Best: Old Trafford
Worst: Doncaster's old ground.

Q - Who is your Nottingham Forest player of the season?

Chris Cohen.

Q- Which player(s) would you like to see Forest sign this summer (realistically)?

Sharp, Santa Cruz, SWP, Ward, Cole.

Q - All seater stadia. Good thing, or a bad thing?

Good thing.

Q - What are your thoughts on how the team performed last season and how did it compare with your expectations?

Last season was ok considering all of the issues that went on. Disappointed because the start of the season had so much promise and hope but maybe I was being unrealistic so on the whole it was ok.

Q - What are your expectations for next season in the Championship/Where will we finish?

I really want to say as champions but the team needs much strengthening. We need wingers, big goal scorer that is ruthless, a solid and experienced centre back, same in midfield and an experienced goalkeeper. If we don't then maybe a 5th placed finish but I don't think we will go up with what we have at the moment.
We do need to get rid of Miller and Derbyshire though.

Q- Much has been said about the wealth of our new owners. Do you think they will spend their way to promotion, or adopt a more frugal approach in trying to achieve it?

I don't think they will spend their way to promotion and only the manager (whoever that maybe) will get us there.
There has been nothing to suggest the owners will spend what is necessary (hope I'm wrong) to get us in the PL. I appreciate the financial fair play regs are coming in but anyone with wealth and passion would break those rules and face the consequences at the end of the season.

Q - Name a former Forest player you were most disappointed to see sign for another club?

Stan Collymore.

Q - What's your opinion on Billy Davies and will he bring success to the club?

I think he is a very good manager at Championship level and will get us promoted if given the right financial backing with additional cash in January which will be crucial.
If and when we get there he will need to be replaced, I don't think he will be good enough in the PL I'm afraid.
Billy will finish his business with the club though?

Q - In your opinion, was it the right or wrong decision to sack Sean O'Driscoll?

Right decision, completely the wrong time though. For me he should have gone at the end if the season.

Q - New stadium, or renovate the City Ground?

Unfortunately new stadium to move forward and compliment our fantastic training facilities.

Q - If you could put one question or make one request to Mr.Fawaz Al-Hasawi, what would it be?

How much will you invest in the playing squad in the summer and in January ?

Q - Where do you sit/stand at the City Ground?

Brian Clough upper.

Q - Name the celebrity you would most like to meet.

Michael Buble.
