Match winner Junior Agogo was today praised by manager Colin Calderwood - but told he faces a fight to keep his first-team place.
The striker scored twice to bring an end to Nottingham Forest's frustrating run of matches without an away win, as they claimed a 2-1 derby success at Chesterfield.
And Reds boss Calderwood was delighted with the contribution from attacking duo Agogo and Jack Lester, who played a key role in victory.
But he also challenged them to maintain their performance levels to ensure they keep their places over Grant Holt and Nathan Tyson - both sidelined through suspension.
'Junior came to see me and we had a chat about why he had not been selected,' said Calderwood.
'The effectiveness of his performances was less than it is now.
'But he has the bit between his teeth. We are starting to see him back to the level that he was at in the first six or seven weeks when he came here.
'And it has got to stay at that level because he is in competition with the likes of Nathan and Grant Holt.
'The two strikers that played at the weekend have had to bide their time, Jack more than most.
'He has played well for the club throughout his time here and is a huge favourite. His all-round game was fantastic.
'They combined well. But we know that Nathan and Grant have also played well as a combination, they did it last season and in periods this season.'
Lester is one of several players who are out of contract at the end of the season.
But Calderwood says a decision will be made on his future in the summer.
'We are in a situation where the boys all know where we stand,' he said.
'That will come at the end of the season and it is a decision that will be determined, to a certain extent, by what division we are playing in.
'There is a lot in the dressing room that is right and they all know what direction they want to be heading in.
'We are quite happy with the situation.'
