On New Years Day, Forest face another tough trip, this time down to Berkshire to face a Reading side that have lost their last 3 games.
Forest brought the curtain down on 2013 in style with 2 successive home wins against QPR and Leeds, whilst remaining unbeaten throughout December. That run included 3 win & 3 draws, and sees Forest on 39 points, placed 5th at the half way stage - so hopefully, they will carry that momentum into this fixture.
Reading are 9th on 34 points, winning 2 and losing 4 of their last 6 games, with manager, Nigel Adkins (like many) pointing towards a need to strengthen in the forthcoming January transfer window.
Ironically, Reading were the last side to beat Forest, winning 2-3 at the City Ground on November 29th - in a game where Forest found themselves 0-2 down after only 13 minutes. When we finally decided to turn up, goals from Cox & Henderson brought the scores level before sloppy defending allowed Obita to win it for the Royals.
Kaspars Gorkss, who scored the second goal in their earlier win against Forest will be suspended for collecting 2 yellows in the 3-0 defeat at Middlesborough. Former Forest players, Gunter, Sharp & McCleary are all expected to play.
David Vaughan missed the Leeds win, with a slight thigh strain, so will no doubt face a late fitness test. Cohen & Blackstock are out for the season, Kelvin Wilson is still weeks away and Danny Collins, should be edging closer to a return. Darius Henderson completes his 3 match suspension, for his straight red at Birmingham.
With 2 in 2, Greg Halford could once again start as the lone striker, with Cox (hopefully fully recovered from his virus) and Matt 'Forest' starting from the bench.
With the defeat against Reading being a relatively recent event, the defence will face a stern test against a Reading side full of attacking options - so, the need to concentrate and start from the first whistle is of paramount importance!
The bookies favour a draw, 0-0 looks unlikely and despite Forest having momentum, I'd take a point away from home.
Hope you all have a great evening and all the very best for 2014!!!
