'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Red's See Riera Check In!

Various media outlets see the capture of Roger Riera Canadell as something of a coup for Stuart Pearce's Nottingham Forest.

Riera, a free agent, was released by Barcelona after 9 years at La Masia Academy - during which time, he captained every side that he represented for the Catalan club.

The 19 year old, 6 foot 2 inch centre back led his team to 9 titles in as many years with Barcelona, as well as winning the Nike cup and the UEFA Youth League title.

Despite such an impressive pedigree, gaining plaudits for his commanding defensive performances and being suitably comfortable with the ball at his feet - his release must have come as a shock.

Stuart Pearce and his backroom staff have certainly shown a different approach to scouting players and wasted no time at all, in swooping in and signing their man on a 2 year contract.

Riera is another that fits the 'young up and coming prospect, with development potential' category. As soon as his signing was confirmed he tweeted:

'Today I start a new chapter in my life at @Official_NFFC . I'm really excited about this new project and I'm gonna give all for this team'

Welcome to Nottingham Forest - I hope your stay is a very successful one!!!
