Forest's Under 21s Tame The Owls!

Forest U21s v Sheff Wed (a) - Tuesday 26th August 2014

Having been narrowly, and unfortunately beaten by Charlton on the opening day, Jimmy Gilligan's Forest second string went to Middlewood Road to face Sheffield Wednesday - who themselves had started by beating Crystal Palace 2 - 1.

Kieran Fenton came in for Jake Wholey at left-back, allowing Louis Laing to move inside with Roger Riera starting at right back.

David Vaughan gained much needed game time in midfield on the comeback trail as well Kelvin Wilson returning in defence.

Willi Gnahore (for Grant 90)

Forest began like a train and were ahead inside two minutes. From their third corner Riera glanced home Vaughan's precise delivery.

Blake then blasted over from range before a long delay after Durrant was illegally clattered whilst collecting a high ball but, after a change of blood splattered shirt and lengthy attention to his nose, the 18 year old was able to continue.

Chances were few and far between for The Owls with Wilson and Laing comfortably snuffing out the threat of Mani Dieseruvwe and Franck Betra.

HT Wednesday 0 Reds 1

Owls keeper Wildsmith made a great double save from Rees just after the break before Wednesday had their best spell of possession with a number of corners resulting - the last of which Fenton cleared from under his bar.

Having weathered the storm, Forest doubled their lead as Wildsmith collided with one of his own players coming for a corner - presenting Wholey with a tap in with his first touch.

It was soon 3 - 0 as Forest turned defence into attack fast as Walker fed Burke to slot home then the goal of the game rounded things off, with Grant ghosting in to clip home Wholey's cross.

Forest then coasted through the last ten minutes although Betra brought the best out of Durrant from 20 yards but the clean sheet was preserved as the keeper palmed away.

A good result and performance, with Wilson and Vaughan both getting a full match under their belts, as they step up their respective recoveries.

Full Time: Wednesday 0 - 4 Forest.

As ever, many thanks to dd47 for providing the match report on the U21's!!
