Clough On Derby Strike

Clough On Derby Strike

Striker Zach Clough has been giving his thoughts after registering his first East Midlands goal at the weekend against Derby County.

Hosting Derby at the City Ground for new manager Mark Warburton's first match following his arrival a few days back, Clough gave us the one nil advantage five minutes into the first half, and with Derby starting the brighter and taking a two one lead in the second period, Dani Pinillos saved a point with his stoppage time effort.

For Clough though the day will certainly go down in his memory.

Speaking to the Official Forest Site as he met with the media for his own post game press interviews, the delighted youngster explained.

'It was a great feeling. I haven`t had many moments like that before. I can remember one time on my debut at Bolton but that is something special for me and my family and it is something I will remember for the rest of my life. Dani Pinillos was looking for Britt and Britt made the run across the front. Luckily it came to me; I made the late run into the box, saw the keeper coming towards me and it was an easy finish really.'

Clough went on to say about the goal that he had goosebumps in the build up to the match because he knew what it meant to the fans, so he was delighted to have played his part in securing what became the draw.

'I think it is hard for defenders to pick up the late runners from midfield and that is what I like doing. I have scored a lot of goals doing that and that is something I see myself doing a lot. Walking out before the game I had goosebumps; the stadium was full more or less and the fans were great all the way through. It was a great experience.'

With a much better first half period, Clough had to admit that the second half was largely disappointing but he praised the character of the side to fightback right until the end of the game and secure the point.

'We went out looking to do the same thing in the second half but credit to Derby, they came out and pressed us and made it more difficult for us to play. In the end we got the equaliser and took the point.'

He went on to say that he also felt it was a penalty for a foul on Ben Brereton.

'I think it was a penalty, but after that it was a great ball from Ben Osborn and a great header. You could see the passion from the players and the fight was showing to stay in this division. It is important to stay out of the bottom three and get as many points as we can.'
