Warburton On Liverpool & Arsenal Linked Brereton

Mark Warburton has insisted Ben Brereton - who continues to be linked with Liverpool, Arsenal and previously Manchester United - wants to stay at Nottingham Forest, which the Forest boss hopes will be the case as it would be in the best interests of his continued development anyway.

Should the rumoured interest in Brereton result in concrete bids during the summer months the boss insists he'll ONLY be sold on Forests' terms - at a price the Reds deem fair for the talented striker.

Warburton told the Nottingham Post.

'He is a Forest player and I am not about to put any kind of time on things - we want him here for as long as possible. He is a young player still and he will have dips in form. I was going to say he will still have growth spurts as well, but his head will be in the stands if that happens. He will have moments where the ball just bounces off him and they are the periods where you do your learning. He wants to be part of pushing this club back to where it should be. I am sure of that.'

Brereton, who produced another good performance in the much-needed win over Huddersfield on Saturday - moving Forest five points clear of the bottom three, continues to be watched by a host of Premier League scouts.

His current contract ties him to Forest until the end of next season but improved and/or extended terms can be offered to Brereton when he turns 18 next week in a bid to keep him at the City Ground.

Asked he was concerned by the contract situation and the interest show in Brereton, Warburton said.

'I never worry about this. People always ask me that question, about scouts. And people always advise you not to talk him up too much. But the fact is that he is our player.'

Adding.

'The way football works is that everyone has a price. Ronaldo and Messi have a price. But the fact is that any player who leaves Forest will only do so on Forest's terms; on the board's terms. That is how the game works. We will look after him. We have given him an environment to thrive in. We hope our young players are here for a very long time and, if they are not, they will only leave on our terms.'

Another season from Championship Apprentice of the Year winner Brereton, at least, is what former Forest man, European Cup winner, Kenny Burns is also hopeful of getting.

However, as much as he's urging the Reds to 'resist any bids', he pointed to Oliver Burke's exit last summer - that, after it was insisted he too wouldn't go anywhere...
