A Repeat Performance Forest DON'T Want

With the dust settling on Nottingham Forest's Championship survival, ahead of Blackburn on goal difference, attention turns to the future and Mark Warburton is clear in his mind what CAN'T happen again.

There can be no repeat performance of the 2016-17 seasons shambles, Warburton has said, quoted by Sky Sports, Forest can't ever be allowed to be in such a position again.

He said: 'We can never allow ourselves to be in this position again. Ever. I said to the boys we must make a vow to make sure this never happens again. The last few weeks have hurt but we have to remember this feeling and make sure we never experience it again, it can't be allowed to happen.'

Forest, like all other clubs, don't have a divine right to anything, but a club of our stature, and history, shouldn't be battling to stay in the Championship, we're better than that.

Warburton is confident he's seen enough in the squad to suggest there's quality to take Forest forward, which can be achieved with some summer additions and a good pre-season.

'A relegation dogfight is not what we are about and I am confident it won't happen next season, and I say that because I have seen the quality within the squad. I've seen enough in the seven or eight weeks I've been here to know that with a good pre-season behind us we can put a marker down next season.'

Adding: 'That will come through hard work and commitment every single day and I know we have that. The players have been first class since I came to this club, their attitude has been first class.'

The favour Warburton wanted from one of his former clubs, Brentford, didn't come, but it wasn't needed anyway as Blackburn's victory counted for nothing owing to the fact Forest took care of business ourselves, seeing off Ipswich 3-0 to ensure a return to League 1, where we played from 2005-2008, didn't come about.
