Lichaj Claims Player Of The Year Award

Lichaj Claims Player Of The Year Award

Eric Lichaj has been confirmed as Nottingham Forest's Player of the Year for 2016-17.

Collecting almost half the votes, former Aston Villa defender Lichaj succeeds ex-Forest keeper Dorus De Vries, who joined Celtic last summer, in winning this Player of the Year award.

He told the Official Website of his delighted at winning this gong, something he'll never forget, even if various parts of the relegation-survival season wouldn't linger in his memory.

Lichaj said: 'I am really happy, not at the state of the season as a whole but at avoiding relegation and it is an honour that I will remember for the rest of my life.'

The American defender went on to say he wasn't actually sure if he warranted the title of Player of the Year? But that doesn't mean Lichaj doesn't appreciate it.

He added: 'It does make it extra special knowing that the fans have voted for me; it is a good award to have. I know that Dorus De Vries won it last year and that was well deserved for him. I don`t know if I deserved it this year as it has been a difficult season but I do really appreciate it.'

Lichaj, 28, featured in 45 games in all competitions for Forest scoring two goals, against Birmingham and Huddersfield, both in victories at the City Ground.

What about his rivals? Ben Osborn finished as runner up and David Vaughan came in third.
