Dowell - We Have To Be Better
Kieran Dowell has called on Nottingham Forest to be better when it comes to finding a way to break teams down following the defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend.
Heading to Villa Park on Saturday, Forest came away with a two one defeat despite having more of the ball and greater chances on the day and Dowell told the Official Forest Site that despite a strong display in the second half in particular, there was a lot of frustration in the dressing room as we couldn't find a way through.
'The first half we were a bit lethargic in our build-up play but at half time we had a talk amongst ourselves and the second half was much better. That was more like us; playing through the thirds and creating chances but we couldn't get that second goal.'
He went on to explain.
'We are a good passing team but if the opposition sets up to stop that with two banks of four it is hard to break down. We need to find a way to win and I think we needed more energy in the second half, with a few more runners in behind and that is what we got. The second goal was probably the worst possible time it could have been against us; it took the wind out of our sails and they have continued to do what they did all game which was to sit behind the ball.'
With the loss making it three on the bounce for Forest, Dowell knew we had the quality in the squad to turn it around and he had faith it would click properly soon and we'd start picking up the results we wanted.
'It has been a frustrating spell but the fans have been quality. They have stuck by us and they stayed right until the end today and they need to keep on doing that. Good things are happening and we will come out of this spell. We are coming close to clicking everything together, it is just the small margins at the minute. We have a lot of experience but also a lot of younger lads who are in this league for the first time. We are all learning but once it comes together it will be really good.'
