Mancienne Retains The Armband - Warburton

Manager Mark Warburton has confirmed that Michael Mancienne will retain the skippers' armband in the absence of Chris Cohen this season.

With this season seeing Cohen, Mancienne, Matt Mills and Joe Worrall all wear the armband, Warburton told the Nottingham Post that recent changes had been selection enforced, rather than any overriding indecision on who should be our vice captain in Cohen's absence with a knee injury.

'The captaincy is very important. We had Chris as captain and we lost him to injury. Then we had Michael and we lost him to injury as well. We had Matt Mills as captain - and he did not play against Sheffield Wednesday, so it was Joe Worrall. We went back to Michael Mancienne when he was fit again, because that was the right thing to do. All credit to Michael. It only changed through injury and circumstance. Losing Chris to injury, then losing Michael and Matt, meant that we had to act accordingly.'

With Cohen yet to return to training following treatment on the inflammation in his knees, Warburton said that Mancienne would again continue with the armband for the Derby County clash this weekend.

He was however looking for positive injury news in the coming days.

'It is an international break and you lose players. If you are without seven or eight players on international duty, it can be more difficult. We lose Kieran Dowell, we lose Ben Brereton, we lose Joe Worrall, we lose Daryl Murphy - these guys will all be away. We have to get the loading right, we have to get the fitness right.'

He added.

'The experience of playing international football is fine, but they are out of your control. Players go away with their countries and they eat and sleep - if they are not playing games; if you are a fringe player, there is a concern there. We have had some good pros going out, we hope they do well and we look forward to their return.'
