Karanka - I Waited For The Right Job

Karanka - I Waited For The Right Job

New Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka was officially unveiled to the press yesterday afternoon and he explained that he had waited for the right job to come along and he feels arriving at the City Ground justified that patience.

The Spaniard was announced as our new manager last Monday and he took his first training session today ahead of the game against Aston Villa this weekend, and speaking to the Official Forest Site as he met with the media, the former Middlesbrough boss explained that he was excited with the challenge that now lies ahead of him.

'It is an honour to be here as everybody knows the history of this club. I have been waiting to take the right job; I didn't want to make a mistake and rush into something. I created my career step by step, the first step was really good and I had no doubt that Forest, for me, was the next step. The history, the crowd, the facilities - everything is perfect here. There is a great history at this club - it is not easy to win the European Cup. To work at a club that has two of them is really nice.'

He added.

'The owner, the CEO and the Chairman, they have shown that they wanted me and from the first meeting it was clear that they wanted to create a nice project here because they know how big this club is.'

Having spent time at Boro and prior to that been assistant manager at Real Madrid, Karanka is clearly aware of the impact fans can have during matches and he wants the fans to help him to success.

'The City Ground has an amazing atmosphere. The supporters and people who follow Forest are amazing; to have more than 25,000 people at The City Ground in the Championship is really important and I want them to be part of us. In Spain we say they are the number 12, but sometimes they are number one. We will have good moments and bad moments, but the main message for them is that we need to stay together as that is the only way we are going to be successful. I know that is the case in every single club, but this one more than any other.'
