Karanka`s stand out January signing?

Karanka`s stand out January signing?

Lee Tomlin showed what he was capable of in a standout display against Reading.

Karanka`s decision to loan the 29-year-old from Cardiff just before the transfer window shut last month looks an inspired choice currently. Playing as a deep lying forward last night, he helped the team get a richly deserved draw with a consummate finish past Vito Mannone.

As well as providing the equalising goal, the striker`s work rate, and desire to get on the ball was also notable, and if we see this level of performance for the remainder of his time at the City Ground, every fan will be hoping that he signs on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

Of course, consistency is key for our number 15. His goal last night was only his second of the season, which for an attacking player is not particularly great considering his undoubted ability and talent.

It must be said though that he hasn`t had a great deal of game time this campaign - being mostly used as a substitute by Neil Warnock in the first half of the season.

His displays for Bristol City last year are more in line with what we should expect from him. Seven goals and six assists is a solid return from 42 matches, especially because he was used not only as a No.10, but also on both wings, by Robins boss Lee Johnson.

Some of the manager`s other signings such as Tobias Figueiredo, Jack Colback, Ben Watson, and particularly Joe Lolley last night, have shown glimpses of what they can add to our team, but if we are going to start winning matches, Tomlin will be the key.

He has the ability to win the ball high up the pitch, create opportunities for others, and score a few himself, are invaluable assets, and something we desperately need to improve in front of goal.

Goals have been hard to come by this season, but there were signs last night that we might be finally turning the corner on that front.

So who do you think has been the stand out signing?
