Football League To Make Rule Change

Whatever way you look at it, Leeds United were either very clever, or very dirty in their timing when going into administration. If they had left it until the season was over, they would have started the next campaign with -10 points, in the same way Rotherham did last year.

That points deduction on Rotherham probably cost them their place in League 1, but because of the Leeds United timing, they will start next season with a clean slate. You can argue all you like on the merits of this, but you have to feel for Rotherham who arguably did the honourable thing. If we were in the same position as Leeds, would we have used the loophole? You can bet your life we would. But it's wrong and should have been sorted long ago.

At least now any club going into administration will no longer be able to play the system for their own benefits. The new rule states that any club going into administration after the fourth Thursday in March will have their 10 point deduction suspended. If the club is relegated the points will be deducted from their tally at the start of next season. Seems fair enough.
